FINDING THE PERFECT OUTFIT FOR LADIES DAY AT THE RACES
Photography | Shelley Beth | Laura Stafford Smith
To find an outfit suitable for ladies day at the races within Intu Chapelfield | I have to admit this challenge was accompanied by a little fear and dread. I hastened to say this was centred around my current feeling towards clothes during pregnancy and the poor choice there seems to be for maternity wear on the high street.
It seems almost every shop on the high street has pulled its maternity ranges from stores to make it an online range only, which I find disappointing. Finding maternity wear pretty basic as it is, I have been ‘sizing up’ in regular clothes instead where I can.
Mustard is having its moment across all stores in Intu Chapelfield and caught my eye almost everywhere I went. There were so many gorgeous pairs of trousers I would have loved to have tried on.
I am finding during pregnancy, dresses are far more comfortable than trousers for me. So this narrowed my search down straight away. I also know I wanted a dress with some length and plenty of movement – Introducing this mustard gem from H&M. You can take a look at some faux pas and our a vlog of our full day of shopping HERE.
Full of flounce, chiffon and ticking the box at calf length, It was one of the first things I spotted. It’s in the regular range and I sized up to a 16 to accommodate the bump, backside and ever growing bosoms. Yes, it is a little bigger on the top half than desired however with a couple of safety pins to make sure ‘The Girls’ were not on show it was a good fit overall.
Fascinators are the go to headwear for any ladies day at the races. This being said, I wanted to put my own spin on this challenge and defer from the norm. The Autumnal season is upon us now whether we like it or not. Yes the temperature today has been a balmy 22 degreese however the shops are ladened with jumpers and streets with people not knowing what to wear.
Along with mustard, plum as a colour has hit the high street big time. I have to admit, this made for accessorising the dress fairly easy.
As soon as we walked into Monsoon, Laura pointed out this hat which I had to try on. I am a lover of hats. For me when the sun isn’t making an appearance, a hat replaces sunglasses as the perfect finishing touch. This one is very similar to the current Ted Baker rope detail hat.
I paired up the key Intu Chapelfield pieces with a couple of items I already owned. This fine necklace was a gift from a friend – cheers Jaynie! The sock boots and suede green bag are both New Look, prices below.
